Sarah Dodds BSc (Hons), GDipL, PGDip Psy, PGDip Legal Practice
I began my academic journey with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and Criminology from Staffordshire University in 2005. Driven by my interest in forensic psychology, I pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University. My transition into law began with a Graduate Diploma in Law in 2008, followed by a Legal Practice Course with Commendation in 2009. I qualified as a solicitor in March 2013, culminating years of dedicated study and professional development.
As the Head of Legal at MDS, I lead a committed in-house legal team. My role involves managing a diverse caseload of contentious and non-contentious legal matters, including employment law, professional discipline and regulatory cases, and inquests. I provide advice and representation on issues such as pay, contracts, grievances, whistleblowing, discrimination, dismissals, and tribunal claims.
I have extensive experience supporting doctors and dentists during GMC and GDC investigations, fitness-to-practise proceedings, and tribunal hearings. I also assist our members with inquest proceedings. I have also been involved in judicial reviews, including high-profile appeals in the High Court and Court of Appeal.
In addition to my client work for MDS members, I act as the in-house solicitor for MDS and the BAPIO Group, advising on corporate restructuring, commercial contracts, intellectual property disputes, and compliance. I also support board meetings, AGMs, and liaise with external advisors.
Before joining MDS, I honed my expertise in employment law at Schofield & Associates, managing complex cases and leading a large-scale TUPE project for six GP practices. My passion lies in providing tailored legal solutions, empowering professionals, and contributing to the supportive ethos of MDS.
Joining MDS has given me the opportunity to make a real difference to the hardworking medical professionals across the NHS and private practice. By ensuring proper procedures are followed and maintaining high standards of work and conduct, I feel I am contributing, in a small way, to creating a better working environment for medical professionals. This, in turn, helps enhance the patient experience for everyone.
Outside of work, my favourite role is being an auntie. I am also passionate about art and enjoy exploring different cuisines as a dedicated foodie.
